TeenTechSF GLOBAL Civic Hackathon

The United Nations has a set of 17 Global Goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years. Internet anonymity makes it easier to lie and get away with it. Social media "bubbles," cause users to seek out and share their own version of the truth and avoid opposing information. Combat cyberbullying, "Fake News," propaganda from foreign powers influencing political elections with truth telling & freedom of expression, encouraging users to choose their own opinions, but not their own facts.

With good change can also come bad, including natural disasters such as earthquakes, wild fires, tsunamis, and hurricanes. We're also living in a time of human disasters: nuclear explosions, terrorist attacks, mass shootings, climate change, system failures for vulnerable populations including refugees, minority groups, women, children. Prevent, predict, or help relieve natural or man-made suffering.

3D printing, wearable tech, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, the internet of things...what new technology do you find exciting and how would you use it to create a tech solution to a civic problem on a local or global level.

How would you use tech to change the world? Every hack begins with solving a problem. Identify a problem big or small, global or local, and use tech to solve it! Projects will be judged on how well you solved the problem and how big an impact your solution has whether you are affecting a large number of people doing something they do every day or a smaller group of people on a more profound level.
