1) How many members can my team have?

A team can have a maximum of 4 members

2) How do I identify the problem for the hackathon?

Teams must visit MSME factories, hospitals and geriatric centers to explore challenges that can be solved with technology interventions. Site visits will be organized on 27th August 2022.

3) Can I form teams with members from different colleges?

No. The SmartX Hackathon is for IISc students and staff only.

4) Do I need to have any specific eligibility to be a participant for the Hackathon?

Yes, you must be a member of IISc.

5) How do I submit my idea and tech proposal?

Click the register button to register as an individual participant.

Post the site visits on August 27th,  the hackathon site will open for team formation. Participants must register as teams and submit their initial idea with the problem statement on the google form by 27th and proposed technology solution in PPT format by or before August 28th 11:59 PM.

Following the end of the grand hackathon on September 4th, teams must submit their entire solution on the HackerEarth site within the deadline mentioned on the site. This must include overall PPT and optional team videos, source codes and instructions to run programs etc.

6) Does one have to be online and available for the entire duration of the Hackathon?

No, one does not need to be logged in on HackerEarth or be online for the entire duration. You can develop the application on your local system based on the given themes and then submit it on HackerEarth, on the specific challenge page.

7) Since there is no specific technology mentioned, are there any restrictions on using a number of pre-built libraries?

There is no restriction on using any language, technology stack, or libraries. You can use any of them to create a web/mobile application.

8) Do I need to give a demo for the product that I have built?

You may submit a presentation or video that demonstrates your solution, In case you are one of the winners, you will be required to present your solution during the finalist round before a grand jury.

9) A fully developed application needs to have a solid backend for data storage like SQL, SharePoint, etc. Since it is online, is it accepted to show only the prototype of it?

Yes, it's absolutely fine to submit just the prototype. If you use any database like MySQL or PostgresSQL you can also submit a database dump along with your submission. However, you are allowed to submit just the prototype.

10) If it is a team submission, does that mean all team members will have access to work at the same time?

Yes, all team members can log in from their account and submit applications on the hackathon site.

11) Who will own the IP (Intellectual Property) Rights to the product that I have built?

The developer/developers of the web/mobile application will own the IP of the product. However, all code needs to be in the public domain (open source) so that it can be evaluated by the judges.

12) How can I register for the Hackathon?

Head to the HackerEarth site for all registration and submission activities.

13) Where do I submit the problem statement presentation?

You can visit the Hackathon webpage and submit before August 27, 2022 11:59 PM. You will find a google form to submit your problem statement.

14) What is the deadline for the problem statement submission?

Submission of your problem statement will be on or before 27th  August, 2022 11:59 PM.

15) Where do I submit the solution presentation?

You can visit the Hackathon webpage from September 3, 2022 9:30 PM to September 4, 2022 8:00 AM and you will find a button saying ‘Solution Submission’. Click on it and you will be able to submit your solution.

16) What is the deadline for the solution submission presentation?

The timings to submit your solution from September 3, 2022 9:30 PM to September 4, 2022 8:00 AM

17) How do I build a team?

Step 1: Click on form a team (once you register)

Step 2: Click on Build a team.

Step 3: Browse all participants.

Step 4: Send invite to the person you want to form a team with using their email address.

Step 5: They have to accept your invite and they will be added to your team.

Please note: 1 member from each team will be able to send invites.

18) What happens in this Hackathon?

August 27th:  Industry site visits to explore problem statements.

Students return and begin ideation and team formation.

Submit the problem statement on the google form.

August 28th: Submission of concept proposal on the website.

September 3th : Students work on the problem statement and we submit the solution before the deadline.

September 4th : Students present to the jury; The jury will shortlist the teams and will announce the winning teams.

19) How do we go to the site visit?

We have buses arranged for the site visits inside the campus. These buses will be going to different locations.

20) Where do I submit the problem statement and the concept proposal?

Problem statement can be submitted on the google form which is linked on the website. Concept proposal can be submitted directly on the website.
