  • This is a team participation hackathon. You can have at most 4 members in your team.

  • You can either invite your friends to form a team or you can request other teams to add you as a member.

  • The hackathon will start at May 25, 2021 10:14 PM IST and end at July 31, 2021 11:55 PM IST, you work on your hack during the allotted time only.

  • It's an online hackathon, you can participate from anywhere.

  • Your submission must be aligned with one of the defined themes of this hackathon.

  • Once the hackathon starts, you will get an option to submit your hack, you can submit as many times as you want, the last hack will be considered as the final submission.

  • You are expected to come up with new and innovative ideas, any idea(s) deemed as plagiarized or copied from somewhere else are disqualified.

  • Your hack must be developed entirely during the Hackathon duration. You may use open source libraries and other freely available systems / services such as Google Maps, Facebook Connect, Twitter feeds etc.

  • The intellectual property of your code belongs only to your team.

  • By participating in the hackathon, you agree to the terms and conditions of HackerEarth.

NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. PURCHASES WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. ALL FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL, AND MUNICIPAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS APPLY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST CONSTITUTES YOUR AGREEMENT TO AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE OFFICIAL RULES (“RULES”) BELOW. 

 

1. SPONSOR. This contest is sponsored by Symbl.ai (“Sponsor”). References to Sponsor in this Agreement shall refer solely to the company sponsoring the contest, its parent company, affiliates, subsidiaries and the administrator named below.

2. Eligibility. 

This Symbl.ai Hackathon is a global opportunity. 

Individuals, and teams of individuals, must have reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence at the time of entry.

Void where prohibited or restricted by law, and void in countries/regions under sanctions by the United States, including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria.

Note: Government officials, corporations, employees of Symbl.ai and their families, nor judges nor any other individual or organization whose participation would create, in the sole discretion of the Sponsor a conflict of interest are eligible to win prizes, but may submit projects.

Developers and data scientists of all backgrounds and skill levels are encouraged to submit projects. 

3. Agreement to Rules.Submission in the Contest constitutes your agreement to and acceptance of these Rules and acknowledgement that the decisions of the Sponsor are final and binding. Winning a prize is expressly contingent upon compliance with the Rules.

4. Contest Period: April 15th, 2021 to June 17th, 2021

5. Requirements.

* User Account Registration with Symbl.ai and HcakerEarth required.

* Provide a URL to your code repository for judging and testing. If your repo is private, it must be shared with devrelations@symbl.ai before the deadline.

* Include a video (about 3 minutes) that demonstrates your submission. Videos must be uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook Video and made public through a Tweet, LinkedIn post, or other social media platform.

6. Representations of Individuals or Teams making a Submission.

Your Submission must: (a) be your (or your Team) original work product; (b) be solely owned by you, or your team with no other person or entity having any right or interest in it; and (c) not violate the intellectual property rights or other rights including but not limited to copyright, trademark, patent, contract, and/or privacy rights, of any other person or entity. An Entrant may contract with a third party for technical assistance to create the Submission provided the Submission components are solely the Entrant’s work product and the result of the Entrant’s ideas and creativity, and the Entrant owns all rights to them. An Entrant may submit a Submission that includes the use of open source software or hardware, provided the Entrant complies with applicable open source licenses and, as part of the Submission, creates software that enhances and builds upon the features and functionality included in the underlying open source product. By entering the Contest, you represent, warrant, and agree that your Submission meets these requirements.

By submitting an entry or accepting any prize, entrants represent and warrant that (a) submitted content is not copyrighted, protected by trade secret or otherwise subject to third party intellectual property rights or other proprietary rights, including privacy and publicity rights, unless entrant is the owner of such rights or has permission from their rightful owner to post the content; and (b) the content submitted does not contain any viruses, Trojan horses, worms, spyware or other disabling devices or harmful or malicious code.

7.  Intellectual Property Rights; Use of Name and Likeness.

All submissions remain the intellectual property of the individuals or teams that developed them. By submitting an entry, Entrants agree to grant Sponsor a non-exclusive limited, worldwide, license to use such submission for judging the entry. Entrants agree that the Sponsor shall have the right to promote the submission and use the name, likeness, voice and image of all individuals contributing to a submission, in any materials promoting or publicizing the Contest and its results, during the Contest Period and for three years thereafter.  

 

8. Prizes & Winner Notification Prizes will be announced on the Hackathon Portal and also communicate by email to the respective winners.

A. Substitutions & Changes: Prizes are non-transferable by the winner. Sponsor in its sole discretion has the right to make a prize substitution of equivalent or greater value. Sponsor will not award a prize if there are no eligible submissions entered in the Hackathon, or if there are no eligible Entrants or submissions for a specific prize.

B. Verification Requirement: THE AWARD OF A PRIZE TO A POTENTIAL WINNER IS SUBJECT TO VERIFICATION OF THE IDENTITY, QUALIFICATIONS AND ROLE OF THE POTENTIAL WINNER IN THE CREATION OF THE SUBMISSION. No submission or submitter shall be deemed a winning submission or winner until their post-competition prize affidavits have been completed and verified, even if prospective winners have been announced verbally or on the competition website. The final decision to designate a winner shall be made by the Sponsor. 

C. Prize Delivery: Prizes will be sent to the Entrant, if an individual; to the Entrant’s Representative, if a Team.  It will be the responsibility of the winning Entrant’s Representative to allocate the Prize among their Team participating members, as the Representative deems appropriate. A monetary Prize will be mailed to the winning Entrant’s address (if an individual) or the Representative’s address (if a Team), or sent electronically to the Entrant, Entrant’s Representative bank account, only after receipt of the completed winner affidavit and other required forms (collectively the “Required Forms”), if applicable. Failure to provide correct information on the Required Forms, or other correct information required for the delivery of a Prize, may result in delayed Prize delivery, disqualification or the Entrant, or forfeiture of a Prize. Prizes will be delivered within 60 days of the Sponsor receipt of the completed Required Forms.

D. Fees & Taxes: Winners (and in the case of Team, all participating members) are responsible for any fees associated with receiving or using a prize, including but not limited to, wiring fees or currency exchange fees. Winners (and in the case of Team, all participating members) are responsible for reporting and paying all applicable taxes in their jurisdiction of residence (federal, state/provincial/territorial and local). Winners may be required to provide certain information to facilitate receipt of the award, including completing and submitting any tax or other forms necessary for compliance with applicable withholding and reporting requirements. United States residents may be required to provide a completed form W-9.. The Sponsor reserves the right to withhold a portion of the prize amount to comply with the tax laws of the United States.

9. General Conditions.

In the event that the operation, security, or administration of the Contest is impaired in any way for any reason, including, but not limited to fraud, technical problems, security malfunctions or in the event the Contest is unable to run as planned for any other reason, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion, Sponsor may, in its sole discretion, either: (1) suspend the Contest to address the impairment and then resume in a manner that best conforms to the spirit of these Rules; or (2) terminate the Contest and, in the event of termination, no participant shall be eligible for a Reward of any type. 

 

Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of these Rules or in a disruptive manner. Any attempt by any person to damage the website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages (including attorneys fees) and any other remedies from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Failure by Sponsor to enforce any provision of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.

 

10. Release and Limitations of Liability.

By participating in the Contest, you agree to release and hold harmless Sponsor, and each of its respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, and other companies associated with the Contest, and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, shareholders, representatives, and agents (together, “Released Parties”) from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Contest or receipt of a Reward, including, but not limited to: (a) any technical errors associated with the Contest, including lost, interrupted or unavailable Internet Service Provider (ISP), network, server, or wireless service provider; (b) unauthorized human intervention in the Contest; (c) mechanical human, printing or typographical errors; or (d) injury, death, losses or damages of any kind, to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from your participation in the Contest or acceptance, receipt or misuse of any Reward you may receive. You further agree that in any cause of action, the Released Parties’ liability will be limited to the lesser of the cost of entering and participating in the Contest or $100, and in no event shall the entrant be entitled to receive attorney’s fees. Released Parties are also not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by site users, tampering, hacking, or by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest. 

 

11. Privacy & Information Submitted

As a condition of entering the Contest, you give consent for Sponsor to obtain and store your name, address and other information for the purpose of administering this Contest and to comply with applicable laws, regulations and rules.  Any information you provide to Sponsor may be used to communicate with you in relation to this Contest or on a Contest Winner’s list.  Information submitted in connection with the Project will be treated as private information in compliance with our Privacy Policy and will only be used for the purposes of administering this contest and notifying you if we have won and mailing the prize. 

12. Miscellaneous.

The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Rules or the prize acceptance documents will not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision.  In the event that any provision of the Rules is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, the other provisions will remain in effect and will be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein.  Sponsor’s failure to enforce any term of these Rules will not constitute a waiver of that provision.  You agree to waive any rights to claim ambiguity of these Rules.  In the event there is a discrepancy or inconsistency between disclosures or other statements contained in any Contest-related materials, privacy policy or terms of use on the Site and/or the terms and conditions of the Rules, the Rules shall prevail, govern and control.

13. Governing law; Arbitration.

These Rules shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of Washington, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules, which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than Washington. Except where prohibited, you agree that any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of, or connected with, the Contest or any Reward awarded shall be resolved by binding arbitration, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the appropriate court located in Washington. The parties agree to follow the arbitration procedures set forth by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) to resolve the dispute. Arbitration proceedings shall take place in the State of Washington. Each party is responsible for paying its own filing, administrative and arbitrator fees. Judgment on the arbitration award may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof.
