Team description
Problem Statements: 1. No waste metering system available in India as of today and collection of data at the end-point has resulted in unrealistic estimation of actual landfill capacities. 2. Lack of waste collector feedback system leading to sparsely prevalent and improper segregation practices resulting in ineffective and lesser material recovery from the value chain.
Our Solution – A “PAY as YOU trash” system. 1. Wireless weighing scale. 2. Waste collector’s mobile app 3. Citizen’s mobile app 4. Data storage and analytics platform with DWCC inventory portals 5. Incentivisation through Gamification Proposed workflow of the new system: • The waste collector, equipped with the wireless weighing scale and a smartphone application, scans a QR code pasted at the gate of the house and then selects the category of waste that he is collecting. • The address and the details of the location/house are auto populated from the QR code and a virtual display for the weighing scale on the app interface receives the reading from the weighing scale. • The waste collector rates the quality of segregation of the waste that he is colleting. • A camera prompt opens up for lower qualities of segregation to collect evidence on the waste mixing. • The data is pushed to cloud storage at later time upon gaining access to internet. • The citizen receives notification on user-specific data push to his mobile user interface. Features of individual entities of our solution: 1. Wireless weighing scale features: i) Bluetooth module: This wireless weighing scale enables lazy-push of data onto cloud. The firmware on the scale enables data encryption and transmission via a Bluetooth module to the collector app and then onto a cloud storage platform. ii) Pocket size: It is compact and portable to help collect data at any point. iii) Robust: The construction shall be durable and the device can record weights upto 50 kgs. iv) Low-cost: The device shall be made available at a price that is affordable for the economically weaker sections of the society. v) Firmware algorithm:
The scale shall be programmed to be able to add additional weight at a given point of data collection, for ex. a bulk generator.
