Rules

  1. Skill-a-thon 1.0 will be a virtual event, you can participate from anywhere.
  2. Participation in Hackathon is open for teams which may or may not represent any organization. You can have 3 to 5  members in your team.
  3. You can either invite your friends to form a team or you can request other teams to add you as a member.
  4. Organizations, participating in the hackathon, will be required to make individuals/ teams register for the Hackathon to represent them.
  5. Team members participating in the Hackathon must have a bank account in any scheduled bank in India along with PAN number for remittances of prize money.
  6. Participant(s) who will be participating as a team, are required to provide details of all the team members as per the directions (to be published later) prior to the start of the hackathon.
  7. Participants will be provided detailed challenge statement documents as part of the starter pack which will include:
    • Instructions to the participants
    • Information required from participants including submission details
    • Overview of challenges
    • Detailed challenges including description as well as mandatory and optional requirements
    • Resources
    • Evaluation Process
    • Award Details
  8. This is a two-phase event. First Stage is Idea Submission and Second Stage is Prototype Submission.
    • Deadline of First Stage: February 19, 2023
    • Deadline of Second Stage: February 26, 2023
  9. There will be multiple categories of challenge statements, you must submit hacks across one or more of those categories.
  10. Once the hackathon starts, you will get an option to submit your hack, you can submit as many times as you want, and the last hack will be considered the final submission.
  11. You are expected to come up with new and innovative ideas, any idea that has been copied from somewhere will be disqualified.
  12. Your hack must be developed entirely during the Hackathon duration. You may use open-source libraries and other freely available systems/services such as Google Maps, Facebook Connect, Twitter feeds etc.
  13. All the ideas submitted in Phase 1 would be public and open to the entire community.
  14. Teams who participate in Phase 1 would be given a priority to participate in Phase 2.
  15. Participant(s) by submitting their solutions hereby represents, covenants and declares that: 
    • Solution has been originally developed by the Participant(s);
    • Solution does not and will not constitute any infringement of copyright or any right of privacy, or rights in any other form of intellectual property, or any other personal or property right whatsoever of any person or entity, or constitute a libel or slander, or hurt the religious sentiments of people worldwide or be defamatory of any person deceased or alive or blasphemous in its content and that they fully own and control all rights and interests including all intellectual property rights for the developed solution, such material and all rights therein and that no other person or party has right or interest in the solution as a co-owner, partner, mortgagee, charge holder or otherwise howsoever; 
    • Solution shall not expose EkStep Foundation to civil and/or criminal proceedings and /or claims of any nature whatsoever; 
    • Solution is not subject to any lien, charge, or any other encumbrance whatsoever; 
    • Solution is not in contravention of any applicable laws; 
    • All necessary licenses and permissions required for the utilization of the solution for the purpose of the Hackathon have been secured by the Participant(s) in accordance with the existing Terms and Conditions and applicable laws without any recourse to EkStep Foundation. The Participant(s) further agrees and confirms that evaluation committee is entitled to reject the solution of the Participant(s) in the event that the details submitted by the Participant at the time of registration are deficient (including any anagrams or incomplete details), incorrect or untrue in any respect. 
  16. Each and every Participant releases, indemnifies, defends and holds harmless EkStep Foundation and its respective parent, subsidiary, and affiliated companies/boards/organizations, and any other organizations responsible for sponsoring, fulfilling, administering, advertising or promoting the Hackathon, and all of their respective past and present officers, directors, employees, agents and representatives from and against any and all claims, expenses, and liabilities (including reasonable attorneys’ fees), including but not limited to failure to comply with applicable law, violation of the hackathon rules or terms, misuse of EkStep’s or any hackathon entity’s materials, negligence and damages of any kind to persons and property, defamation, slander, libel, violation of right of publicity, infringement of trademark, copyright or other intellectual property rights, property damage, or death or personal injury arising out of or relating to the Solution submitted by the respective Participant(s).
  17. Keeping in mind the spirit and the vision of EkStep Foundation & NDEAR, You agree that any & all of your submissions to this hackathon will be made available as public goods under an Open licensing framework such as (i) all knowledge under the Creative Commons Licensing Framework; and (ii) software and documentation files under an OSI-approved license or any similar license for “free,” “publicly available” or “open source” software, including the GNU General Public License, the Lesser GNU General Public License, the Apache License, the BSD License, Mozilla Public License (MPL), the MIT License or any other such license, to facilitate its use, re-use, adaptation, translation, improvement and distribution for non-commercial and commercial purposes subject to the applicable laws of India. At the same time, participants will be acknowledged for their submissions and contribution by way of rewards and recognition as outlined in these terms.
