About NPCI

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) was incorporated in 2008 as an umbrella organization for operating retail payments and settlement systems in India.NPCI has launched the API accelerator portal named INFINIT in October 2019. The core purpose of this portal is to encourage the entrepreneurial ecosystem in financial technology and innovation. It will serve as an interface between major fintech players like NPCI, banks, established financial corporates and developer ecosystem. It will also enable the start-ups to explore, suggest and discuss extensive ideas on developing new products and new use cases on the existing products

Below are the steps to access API Accelerator

  1. Enter the URL https://infinit.co.in
  2. Register yourself or your institution with all required details.
  3. Validate the email address by clicking on the registration link sent to the e-mail address provided during registration.
  4. Login to portal and subscribe to desired APIs.
  5. Once the subscription request is approved by the Admin, user will be able to explore the API under its dashboard.
  6. User will be able to see all API endpoints with API description, Sample Request, Sample Response.
  7. In the same page user will have the privilege to generate token for that application.
  8. Use this token on your prototype to hit the API accelerator and receive response.

Brainstorm in teams or research individually to come up with an amazing idea to make digital payments more secure. National Payments Corporation of India is constantly creating new age payment products to make digital payments a new normal for every citizen India. Vision and hard work of great minds at NPCI have produced amazing products like UPI, BHIM, etc. which have revolutionized the payments sector globally.

Now, it is your chance to help NPCI onboard users seamlessly. It's time to work together, collaborate, and create innovative, futuristic, and highly-secure solutions for a billion people.

The Hackathon consists of 2 Phases:

Participants can register on the hackathon page and submit their ideas. Please visit the Infinit Page to integrate the API into your solution. This is an online phase.

Themes

BHIM

Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) is an app that lets you make simple, easy and quick payment transactions using Unified Payments Interface (UPI). You can make instant bank-to-bank payments and Pay and collect money using just Mobile number or Virtual Payment Address (UPI ID). It is intended to facilitate e-payments directly through banks as a drive towards cashless transactions.

NPCI is expecting solutions for the following:

  1. Multi Factor User Authentication mechanism
  2. User & Entity behavioral analysis
  3. Intelligent complaint management system
  4. Establishing customer identity – from app download to during transaction
  5. Device binding for iOS
  6. Customer grievances handling – complete lifecycle
  7. Secured QR generation & sharing mechanism
  8. Multilingual apps – entire process of translation to development
  9. App analytics & dashboard (for BHIM)
  10. Any other relevant ideas
NETC

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has developed the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program to meet the electronic tolling requirements of the Indian market. Due to the advent of Fast tag, proximity payments at Tolls become very efficient and real-time. But due to improper implementation of hardware at tolls, there are several incidents where duplicate proximity payments have been done resulting in bad customer experience. Also, Tollbooth operators were hassled by having to divert vehicles of cash toll payers to a different lane and feared to bear the brunt of angry road users.

NPCI is expecting solutions for the following:

  1. Improved User Experience using FasTAG
  2. Intelligent complaint management system
  3. Any other relevant ideas
UPI

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a system that powers multiple bank accounts into a single mobile application (of any participating bank), merging several banking features, seamless fund routing & merchant payments into one hood. It also caters to the “Peer to Peer” collect request which can be scheduled and paid as per requirement and convenience.

NPCI is expecting solutions for the following:

  1. Recurring mandates
  2. Alternative to PoS solutions
  3. Payments in low internet connectivity areas
  4. End-to-End Data Encryption
  5. Any other relevant ideas
RuPay

RuPay is India’s indigenous card scheme created by the National Payments Corporation of India.It was conceived to fulfill RBI’s vision to offer a domestic, open-loop, multilateral system which will allow all Indian banks and financial institutions in India to participate in electronic payments.

NPCI is expecting solutions for the following:

  1. Two Factor Authentication in low internet connectivity areas
  2. .Single Factor Authentication (SFA) for online low value transactions
  3. Any other relevant ideas

Smart City

Participants are invited to participate in this wildcard theme and the winners will get a chance to work with smart cities

Please note that the winners of this wildcard theme will not be entitled to any prize money

1) Single Digital Payment Card for Multi Modal Transport System

Existing cities are struggling with complex fare system with multiple products and multiple operators within the city. A single digital payment card which can be used across multi modal transport system could be a goodsolution. Following are the key drivers for the identified use cases,

  • Open loop card
  • Minimal transaction time, Offline payments
  • Minimal financial risk
  • Any other relevant ideas
  • 2) e-Governance initiatives in the country at the national, state, district and even at the block level is implemented at a fast pace. A common e-Governance infrastructure that will offer an end-to-end transactional experience for a citizen which includes accessing various services through the internet with payment gateway interface for online payments would further fuel this growth. Following are the key drivers for the identified use case,

  • One Platform for Payments and Settlement
  • Telemetry with Artificial Intelligence
  • Minimal financial risk
  • Any other relevant ideas
  • Prizes

    Teams shortlisted from the Ideas submitted and will be given a chance to participate at the Offline Hackathon. The three best solutions adjudged during the Offline Hackathon would be considered for cash prizes as below. The final prizes and its disbursement lies under NPCI's jurisdiction.
