Calling students with bright technology ideas

Honeywell is calling students with bright ideas to change the face of technology. The world is evolving and technologies are getting connected every day. If you have a technology idea that can change the future, we have a hackathon just for you to showcase your brightest and innovative ideas.

You are invited to the Honeywell Eureka Challenge, a hackathon that provides you the platform to create and share compelling technology solutions. The hackathon will test and develop your analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

What’s more, you stand a chance to win some cool prizes and get recognized by Honeywell for your ideas that have the potential to address some of the world’s toughest challenges.

Themes

Voice of the Customer App

provide a mobile application that can streamline an existing spreadsheet based process for conducting and recording voice of the customer interviews conducted by sales/marketing teams. The application will allow our business to standardize the process. It will also create an improved user experience for the sales/marketing resources that are conducting the interview. The current model is very effective but also has complexity based on the categories and different question combinations. Reduction of manual entry, use of voice recognition would be a plus.

Asset Collection Mobile App

we could use a mobile app to do asset collection in the field. We would like the app to be more than just an input screen for the serial number. We want to record all pertinent information about the device, take pictures of it, etc and then upload to a central database when connected. We could actually use this to do a manual inventory of our environments. Reduce manual entry with use of newer technologies (like voice recognition). Customization possible based on type of inventory being conducted.

Vendor Update Scheduling App

technologies are advancing rapidly and that rate is increasing rapidly in the last years. Many vendors including Microsoft, SAP, VMware, PeopleSoft are releasing smaller updates and more often. Consider application testing, application compatibility and application certification ramifications, reducing user disruptions and adoption speed as some of the key criteria that needs to be addressed staying competitive within our industry. Come up with a calendar scheduling application that would allow us to manage and plan vendor software release calendar.

Master Data Management Consistency App

build an application that will verify master data entry to ensure there is no corruption or data duplication. When entering new data into a system today there are a multitude of procedures to detect duplications and warn users. Guiding end users through the master data management process. Automate this via the application to assist end users in fixing the issue during entry (with real time detection) and choosing the right item.

Micro Compute Endpoint Monitoring App

Honeywell has engaged a synthetic monitoring company to provide ‘customer experience’ monitoring by synthetically executing scripts against an API or web application remotely and then measuring the result. The scripts mimic real user interactions. We would like to expand the number of points that we execute these transactions to all global Honeywell locations. To do this we would like to see if we can successfully run the app on a scaled down system such as a Raspberry PI. Some work has already been done in this area, and an image has been created for this device. Due to limitations on the device we need additional performance improvements.
