Rules

  • This is a team participation hackathon. You can have at most 4 members in your team.

  • You can either invite your friends to form a team or you can request other teams to add you as a member.

  • The hackathon will start at 25-02-2016 08:00 AM and end at 31-03-2016 11:59 PM, you work on your hack during the allotted time only.

  • It's an online hackathon, you can participate from anywhere.

  • There are 5 themes of the hackathon, you must submit a hack that is in one of these themes.

  • Once the hackathon starts, you will get an option to submit your hack, you can submit as many times as you want, the last hack will be considered as the final submission.

  • You are expected to come up with new and innovative ideas, any idea that has been copied from somewhere will be disqualified.

  • Your hack must be developed entirely during the Hackathon duration. You may use open source libraries and other freely available systems / services such as Google Maps, Facebook Connect, Twitter feeds etc.

  • The intellectual property of your code belongs only to your team.

  • By participating in the hackathon, you agree to the terms and conditions of HackerEarth.

1. COMPETITION RULES:

These are the official rules (the “Rules”) that govern the Hack-A-Thon (the “Competition”). In these rules, “Honeywell” refers to Honeywell International, Inc. 115 Tabor Rd. Morris Plains, NJ 07950 the sponsor of the Competition and “You” refers to any person submitting an Entry (as defined below) to the Competition.

In order to enter the Competition and in consideration for being permitted to enter the Competition and have an opportunity to win the prize(s), you must agree to the Rules. Therefore please read these Rules carefully to ensure that you understand and agree before entering the Competition.

2. THE COMPETITION

The Competition will be based around a set of problem statements set by Honeywell that will offer participants an opportunity to look at specific issues faced by companies in industry. It will be conducted in Feb 2016 at the university/institute at a mutually agreed date. The Hackathon will be conducted in the presence of Fellows, Senior Technologists and Engineers from Honeywell, who will support the participants on the technical queries, guide and mentor them. Students will compete to generate ideas, and concepts, and build models and prototypes in relation to the problem statements that will be evaluated by Honeywell. The competition will be handled using the Hacker Earth framework where the participant would need to register after accepting the terms and conditions, form teams and upload results.

3. CAN I ENTER?

The competition is open to all full and part-time students studying at the graduate or post-graduate level enrolled in the university/institute. Employees of Honeywell (or any subsidiary or affiliate) and their families are excluded from the competition.

4. HOW DO I ENTER?

  1. Submissions can be on an individual or team basis.

  2. All submissions in relation to the Competition (each an “Entry”) must comply with the following and uploaded on the hacker earth website:

    1. Artifacts (presentations/documents etc) setting out the details of the Entry and the problem that it is aiming to address

    2. Prototype or demo is optional but please feel free to include to complement your poster. Hacker Earth provisions uploading pictures of the prototype created.

    3. It should be an original work of you and/or your team.

    4. in the English language.

  3. A supervising or advising faculty member may support your Entry.

  4. All Entries should be submitted by the end of the hackathon.

  5. Multiple Entries are permitted.

  6. Entries should be submitted to a Honeywell employee.


5. PRIZES

  1. Top 2 Entries will be presented to Honeywell leadership.
  2. The top 2 entries judged based on the review of the jury and will receive MacBook (1st prize) and iPad Mini (2nd prize). All cash prizes will be allocated equally between you and all team members. Honeywell is not responsible for any dispute regarding prize dispersal.
  3. A jury of Honeywell employees will select the winning Entries and the Entries may be displayed at Honeywell. The jury reserves the right to declare the competition void if Entries do not fulfill eligibility requirements. The jury’s decisions shall be final and binding. The winning Entries will be announced within 1 to 2 weeks of the event, including the name of the winning Entry, author(s) and supervising or advising faculty member.

6. CONFIDENTIALITY

  1. You will keep the problem statements in relation to the Competition confidential and will not use, disclose, reproduce, retain, or dispose of the problem statements without permission in writing from Honeywell for a period of 2 years from the date of this Agreement.
  2. You will keep the Entry and all information related to the Entry including, but not limited to, designs, drawings, know-how, specifications, design concepts, inventions, processes, testing methodologies and all draft workings etc. confidential (the ”Confidential Information”) and will not use, disclose, reproduce, retain, or dispose of the Confidential Information without permission in writing from Honeywell. If you would like to use the Entry or any information related to it for any purpose including in relation to your University studies please contact Honeywell. Honeywell shall not unreasonably withhold such permission. This obligation shall apply for 3 years from the date of this Agreement.

  3. In the event you are selected to attend a Honeywell leadership event, you agree to sign a confidentiality agreement relating to your participation.

7. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

  1. Honeywell reserves the right to publically publish or distribute the Entries, and photos and names of the winners and their supervising or advising faculty member through any electronic and physical form.
  2. You confirm that your Entry is your own original work and/or that of your team and, so far as you are aware, it does not infringe upon or violate the rights of any other third party (including any intellectual property right such as copyrights, trade secrets, design rights and inventions, whether or not patentable).
  3. All Entries submitted, and any associated intellectual property, including but not limited to all copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, design rights and inventions, whether or not patentable (“Intellectual Property”) related to such Entry, will become the property of Honeywell once received. You assign all right, title and interest in the Entry and any associated Intellectual Property rights to Honeywell. You also agree to take all actions, upon the written request of Honeywell, to vest all ownership rights in Honeywell (or its subsidiaries or affiliates), including, as may be necessary, an assignment of all rights and title, and the execution of documents necessary to perfect such assignment to Honeywell (or its subsidiaries or affiliates). Such ownership specifically includes all Intellectual Property rights that may apply. If for any reason such assignment of is not effective in whole or in part you grant Honeywell (and its affiliates and subsidiaries) an exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free, sub-licensable, worldwide right and license to review, assess, test, analyze and use the Entry and all associated Intellectual Property rights including, but not limited to, in connection with its business or that of its subsidiaries or affiliates. You also agree to execute a confidentiality / non-disclosure agreement related to the content of your Entry, if so requested by Honeywell. If you do not want to grant these rights to Honeywell please do not enter the Competition.
  4. Participation in this Competition does not create an obligation on either your part or Honeywell’s part to negotiate or enter into any business relationship or to sign any commercial agreement, except as set out in Clauses 6(iii) and 7(iii). You agree that nothing in the Rules grants you a right or license to use the Honeywell name or any Honeywell trademark or service mark.
  5. You agree to release and hold harmless Honeywell and its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, employees and agents from any and all liability or any injury, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with this Competition or any prize won.
  6. Honeywell reserves the right to cancel the Competition at any time.
  7. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these Rules shall otherwise remain in effect and be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision was not contained herein.
  8. This agreement shall be governed by the laws of India.
