Winners are announced.
Join us from November 25th to November 26th at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford for the third edition of OxfordHack. This year, at the oldest university in the English-speaking world, hackers from around the world will be pushing the boundaries of technology to new limits.
Last year, we brought together over 300 coders from 53 universities, to create everything from a robot that fights unhappy people, to online whiteboards with LaTeX support.
Confirm your attendance on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter. We will make more announcements on various social media as the hackathon approaches.

Designing new visualisations for electronic medical record data, specifically for use by people on their smartphones. This includes smart graphical visualisations of numeric clinical test data, for example, which can also alert people directly on their phones if their test values are out of a safe range or are triggering an alert, based on warning algorithms. Getting people to engage in their own healthcare and using smartphones to help do this intelligently is a major focus for global health.
We have approximately 1,000 sample records available for this challenge, all with realistic data for fictitious patients. These records are in the latest international standard specification for medical record data and there are existing libraries to help people get started. We'll also provide the information about evidence-based alerts and algorithms etc.
Prize will be one good drone for the winning team.
Innovative ways of connecting doctors with the latest research information. Doctors find it increasingly difficult to keep up with current medical research and new treatments, as the literature is growing faster than ever. They are also very tight for time in consultations with patients and are always looking for ways to make their interactions with digital technology as efficient as possible. This challenge will focus on these two areas - 1) using voice recognition APIs to allow doctors to accurately record narrative consultations notes, without having to type this information up directly 2) using NLP approaches on these consultation notes to link the doctor with the latest research for the conditions mentioned.
We will provide some example realistic consultation notes to test both the voice-recognition approach and to facilitate the NLP implementation. We also provide a database of all research papers from every medical journal, along with metadata to allow for classification from the narrative text.
Prize will be one good drone for the winning team.
