HDFC Life Mobility Hack

The hackathon is over two phases

Phase 1: You need to submit the synopsis of how you will develop the solution. You can also develop a prototype/mockup at this stage and add it to your submission. If you want you can also submit a video explaining your solution. This stage will finish on Jan 12th.

Phase 2: On 20th Jan, we will announce the shortlist of participants who can come to Mumbai for the second phase. Participants are free to start developing their solutions from Jan 20th. On the day of the hackathon, representatives from HDFC Life will be present to give feedback and directions to the participants.

On Jan 29th at the end of the two day event we will announce the prize winners.

• This is a team participation hackathon. You can have at most 5 members in your team.

• You can either invite your friends to form a team or you can request other teams to add you as a member.

• The hackathon will start at 28-01-2017 09:00 AM and end at 29-01-2017 03:00 PM.

• It's a physical hackathon, the venue is

  Of10, Prudential Ground Floor, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400076, India

• There are 3 themes of the hackathon, you must submit a hack that is in one of these themes.

• Once the hackathon starts, you will get an option to submit your hack, you can submit as many times as you want, the last hack will be considered as the final submission.

• You are expected to come up with new and innovative ideas, any idea that has been copied from somewhere will be disqualified.

• Your hack must be developed entirely during the Hackathon duration. You may use open source libraries and other freely available systems / services such as Google Maps, Facebook Connect, Twitter feeds etc.

• By participating in the hackathon, you agree to the terms and conditions of HackerEarth.

• If you choose to participate in the HDFC Life Mobility Hack event (“the Event”) please read these terms and conditions (“Terms and Conditions”) and Hackerearth’s Terms of Service carefully before signing up for the Event. By signing up for the Event, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and are deemed to be bound by any decisions made by HDFC Life in its sole discretion, including any interpretations of the Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree toany of these Terms and Conditions or Hackerearth’s Terms of Service,you are requested not to participate in the Event. HDFC Life, may in its sole discretion, amend the Terms and Conditions, from time to time without any obligation of issuing any notice in that regard and you agree to be bound by the updated Terms and Conditions. The Terms and Conditions agreed by you shall:

  • constitute a legal agreement between you and HDFC Life in connection with your participation in the Event;
  • be applicable with effect from the day on which these Terms and Conditions are accepted by you.

HDFC Life retains the right to withdraw, discontinue or terminate the Event without prior notice and without any liability whatsoever.

• By participating in the Event, you acknowledge that you:

  a) have read and understood these Terms and Conditions;
  b) are an Indian citizen and more than 18 years of age;
  c) have the right, authority and capacity to participate in online events;
  d) agree to be legally bound by these Terms and Conditions.
  e) shall not maintain more than one Hackerearth account.In case it is observed, that you have created more than one account, HDFC Life at its sole discretion may decide to terminate all your accounts except the account that was first created.

• Account: You shall be responsible to ensure the security of your Hackerearth account. HDFC Life shall not assume any liability for any breach of security or unauthorized use of your Hackerearth account.You agree to immediately notify us in the event that you become aware of any unauthorized use of your account or of any other breach of security related to the Event. You shall be liable for any loss caused to HDFC Life by unauthorized use of the Hackerearth account.

• You affirm, represent and warrant that you own or have the necessary licenses, rights, consents, and permissions to participate in the Event and share content through the Hackerearth account. HDFC Life would like to inform you that no data transmission over the internet or data storage system is completely secure. HDFC Life does not take responsibility for the security of content and subsequent use of the content submitted by you through the Hackerearth account. HDFC Life does not guarantee any Confidentiality with respect to the content shared by you through the Hackerearth account.

• You are not permitted to submit content through the Hackerearth account that will:

  a) be threatening, harassing, blasphemous, derogatory, defamatory, pornographic, obscene, pedophilic, hateful,
  racially or ethnically objectionable, violative of another’s privacy, spam or abusive towards any person, community or political or religious group;
  b) contain third party copyrighted material;
  c) harm minors in any way;
  d) violate any law/ regulation for the time being in force;
  e) contain software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the
  functionality of any computer resource;
  f) threaten the unity, integrity, defense, security or sovereignty of India, friendly relations with foreign states, or public order or cause incitement to the commission of any cognizable offense or prevent investigation of any offense or is insulting any other nation.

• Intellectual Property Rights:

  a) You affirm that any solution or deliverable submitted by you under this Event shall be the Intellectual Property of HDFC Life and you shall not make any claim over the same. You further affirm that you have not already shared the intellectual property right of the solution or deliverable, submitted by you, with any third person and shall not, in future,share the intellectual property right of the same with any third person.

  b) For the avoidance of doubt, you grant HDFC Life a perpetual,worldwide, exclusive, royalty free licence to use, reproduce, adapt,communicate, publish and modify your solution and you agree to promptly provide all records and documents, execute all instruments and take all action necessary to vest the solution’s Intellectual Property in accordance with this clause.

  c) For the purpose of these Terms and Conditions, ‘Intellectual Property’ shall mean all intellectual property rights protected by law throughout the world, including all copyrights, copyright registrations and applications,trademark rights, trademark registrations and applications, patent rights (including the right to apply therefore), patent applications (including the right to claim priority under applicable international conventions) and all patents issuing thereon, industrial property rights, inventions (whether or not patentable), together with all utility and design, know-how, specifications, trade names, mask-work rights, trade secrets, moral rights, author's rights, algorithms,rights in packaging, goodwill, and other intellectual and industrial property rights, as may exist now and hereafter come into existence, and all renewals and extensions thereof, regardless of whether any of such rights arise under the laws of India or of any other state,country or jurisdiction.

• Jurisdiction:

  a)These Terms and Conditions shall exclusively be governed by the laws of India.
  b)If you participate in the Event from anywhere outside India, you acknowledge that such use is subject to Indian law and you waive any claims that may arise under any jurisdiction other than India.

• Warranty Disclaimer:
  Participation to the Event shall be at your sole risk and expense. HDFC shall not be responsible for:

  a) any interruption or technical issue;
  b) any bugs, or the like, which may be transmitted to or through the Hackerearth account by any third party;
  c) any sort of expense that you may incur for participation in the Event.

In no event shall HDFC Life, its officers, directors, employees, or agents be liable for any losses, expenses or consequential damages whatsoever resulting from your participation in the Event.

• HDFC Life shall deal with any data/information including sensitive personal information, if any, that it receives from the Event or otherwise in the following manner: a) HDFC Life may disclose data/information including sensitive personal information, if any, to governmental agencies and regulators (e.g., tax authorities), social organizations (e.g., the social security administration), human resources benefits providers (e.g., health insurers), external advisors (e.g., lawyers,accountants, and auditors), courts and other tribunals, and government authorities, to the extent required or permitted by applicable legal obligations. b)The term ‘data/information’ including sensitive personal information, if any, shall mean and include the name and contact information (home address, telephone and fax numbers and email address), valid identity proof such as passport number, driver’s license number, permanent account number (PAN), or other details pertaining to your identity. c) To share it with its third party vendors for contacting you for any promotional activity that HDFC Life desires to carry out.

• You shall, indemnify, defend and hold harmless HDFC Life and its officers, directors, employees, representatives, agents, respective directors, and assigns from and against all claims, losses, damages, fines, penalties, costs, expenses, and liabilities (including,without limitation, attorneys' fees), arising from or relating to:

  a) a breach of any of the Terms and Conditions; b) a breach of any applicable laws;
  c) violation of rights of any third party;
  d) misrepresentation with respect to your age or citizenship.

• Miscellaneous:

  a) Any dispute, claim or controversy arising out of or relating to the Terms and Conditions, including the determination of the scope or applicability of the Terms and Conditions, or your participation in the Event, shall be determined by Arbitration in India, before a sole arbitrator to be appointed by MD and CEO of HDFC Life. Arbitration shall be conducted in accordance with the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. The seat of such arbitration shall be Mumbai. All proceedings of such bitration, including,without limitation, any awards, shall be in the English language. The award shall be final and binding on the parties to the dispute.

  b)Subject to Clause 9(a), for any dispute arising out of or in relation to the Event, the courts in Mumbai shall have exclusive jurisdiction.

  c) If any term is held unenforceable by law, the remaining Terms and Conditions shall continue to remain in force.
  d) No provision of these Terms and Conditions shall be deemed to be waived and no breach excused, unless such waiver or consent shall be in writing and signed by HDFC Life.
  e) These Terms and Conditions constitute the entire agreement between you and HDFC Life with respect to the Event.
  f) You must not use any name or logo of HDFC Life on or in connection with your solution unless permitted in writing by HDFC Life.
  g) You agree that mere submission of the solution through the Hackerearth account does not guarantee your selection for the second round of the Event. HDFC Life shall, at its sole discretion, evaluate and shortlist the participants. You further agree that the selection for the second round of the Event shall not be transferable or assignable.
  h) You may be required to provide basic personal information about yourself,including but not limited to, your name, address, telephone number or mobile number and email address in order to register and participate in the Event.
  i) You shall not reverse engineer, disassemble or de-compile the Hackerearth portal.
  j) You agree that upon being selected, HDFC Life shall intimate the same to you via email or phone number provided by you at the time of registration for the Event.
  k) You agree that any travel costs incurred by them for the Event shall be solely borne by you and HDFC Life shall neither incur nor reimburse any such cost.
