FAQs


1. Overnight
This is a two-day hackathon. However, there is no over-night stay at this hackathon. On Saturday evening, we will ask participants to leave and to regroup Sunday morning,

2. What to bring:
A WIFI-enabled laptop (Mac or PC) with either design software, project management or programming tools.

3. Saturday morning:
The day will start with a Keynote from a child safety advocate, followed by informational workshops on UX/UI, building sites, web applications and child abuse ideation process.

4. I am a social worker and I don't know how to code! Can I still participate?
If you or your team are social workers and/or from a related field, we will have mentors who will guide you through the ideation process. Here is an example of what you may do:
(a) Brainstorm ideas and pick one to work on
(b) Create a prototype or mockup of your solution
(c) Create a pitch deck and practice your presentation
(d) Submit your pitch deck by 3:00pm on Sunday
(e) Give a 5-minute presentation to the judges and answer their questions

5. I am learning how to code and have a basic skill set
We will have mentors that will help you during the hackathon

6. I want to pursue my solution beyond this hackathon
We will assist you in connecting you with a nonprofit that may benefit from your solution

7. Will there be another hackathon?
Yes. We want the participants from this hackathon to showcase their solution at the 2nd hackathon. Also, we think that child abuse prevention and intervention are in constant need of innovation.



Judging Criteria for the Hackathon

Innovativeness:
How clever and unique is your idea? Have you created a solution that steps completely outside the boundaries of the box?

Profound Impact:
How much will your solution affect and improve the lives of children at home and in their community?

Practicality:
How well does your solution assist those who respond to child abuse?

Presentation:
How persuasive and inspiring is the presentation, the idea, the team?
