Q. What is the Hackathon about?

A. The aim of the Aadhaar hackathon is to encourage and promote the development of applications that utilize the open Aadhaar APIs.

Q. What are the exact dates and timings of the Hackathon?

A. The Hackathon starts at 10 AM (Indian Standard Time) on 6th June, 2015 and ends at 6.00 PM (Indian Standard Time) on 7th June, 2015.

Q. What kind of products can I make?

A. You can build product under the following categories:

  • Government Benefits
  • Financial Services (banking, insurance, and brokerage)
  • Payments
  • Healthcare
  • FMCG
  • Online + Offline (O2O)

Q. What Aadhaar API’s will be exposed to participants?

A. The following Aadhaar API's will be exposed to all participants:

  • Demographic Authentication
  • OTP Authentication
  • OTP eKYC
  • Biometric Authentication*
  • Biometric eKYC*

The two API marked * require approved biometric sensors. You are free to procure your own biometric sensors too - provided these are approved by UIDAI.

Additionally our biometric sensor partner, Morpho will provide USB-based biometric sensors with their SDK for Android and Windows at a special cost of Rs. 3000 - you can purchase these online on or before May 31, 2015.

Q. How to purchase Morpho's Sensors?

Once the purchase has been made, you will be redirected towards a link from where you can download the SDK required for authentication apps. For KYC applications, the SDK will be made available from Khosla Labs on the 6th and 7th June during the hackathon.

Q. What is Morpho’s role in the hackathon?

A. Morpho is a facilitator and sponsor of this event, our patented bio-metric technology is trusted by governments and very large enterprises.

Q. What are the licensing limits of the purchased SDK and device?

A. The device is a generic bio-metric sensor. SDK is available for download for those participants who buy the sensor.

Q. Can I use the purchased device in applications other than this hackathon?

A. No, this device and SDK is specifically meant for usage during this event. Morpho takes no responsibility of the device and SDK beyond this event. The license for the same is applicable only for the Aadhaar Hackathon

Q. Will Morpho provide support to me once the hackathon is over?

A. Email and phone support is available specifically for this event. However, Morpho is committed to the developers our support teams are always willing to assist you but we request developers to put their questions on the forums for appropriate response.

Q. Do I have to participate alone or can it be a team?

A. The hackathon is a team event with the team size limited to a maximum of 4 people. You are welcome to register either as an Individual or with your pre-formed teams. For individual participants, we will facilitate team creation on the day of the event.

Q. Is there any restriction on the language/framework that I have to use?

A. There is no restriction on the programming language or framework you want to use. You can use any language like Python, PHP, C#, Ruby etc, you can use any framework like .NET (C#), Zend (PHP), DJango (Python), Rails (Ruby) or you can use any mobile framework like Android or iOS.

Q. Do I need to take any qualifying test to participate in the Hackathon?

A. No, you don't have to take any qualifying test, you can directly participate in the Hackathon

Q. What are the prizes for the Hackathon?

A. Prizes worth up to INR 2 lakhs to be won. The breakup of the prize money is given on the main page.

Q. Where do I have to come for the Hackathon?

A. The Aadhaar hackathon is an online event on the HackerEarth platform and hence you can participate in the event from the comfort of your home or office or any other place that has a good internet connection.

Q. How do I register for the Hackathon?

Q. How do I submit what I have made for the Hackathon?

A. You have to develop the application on your local system and submit it on HackerEarth in tar/zip file format along with instructions to run the application and source code. If you have built an android app, you can have to submit the .apk file, if you have built iOS app, you have to submit the source code and if you have built a webapp you have to to submit the entire source code as a zipped file.

Q. What should the application be about?

A. Anything! Choose a domain that interests you and build an application that you think can positively impact that domain while harnessing the strength of Aadhaar.

Q. How is the environment? Will your environment support any language? Will you provide any IDE and DB for us to work on ideas?

A. You have to develop the entire software application on your local system and submit it on HackerEarth in tar/zip file format along with instructions to run the application and source code.

Q. Does one have to be online and available for the entire duration of the Hackathon?

A. No, one does not need to be logged in on HackerEarth or be online for the entire duration. You can develop the application on your local system based on the four given themes and then submit it on HackerEarth Hackathon Arena anytime between 10 AM (Indian Standard Time) on 6th June, 2015 and ends at 6.00 PM (Indian Standard Time) on 7th June, 2015

Q. Since there is no specific technology mentioned, are there any restrictions on using number of pre-built libraries?

A. There is no restriction to use any language, technology stack, or libraries.Your application must be developed entirely during the Hackathon duration. You may use open source libraries and other freely available systems / services such as Google Maps, Facebook Connect, Twitter feeds etc.

Q. Do I need to give a demo for the product that I have built?

A. If you want you can submit a small presentation or video that demos your submission, however it’s not mandatory, and only good to have. In case you are one of the winners, you might be invited to demo your application at an offline event, details of which will be shared with sufficient advance notice.

Q. Will there be any Code Audits?

A. All submissions may be subject to a Code Audit to ensure that you are abiding by the above rules. Git repositories will be created for each of you to track your code.

Q. Who will own the IP(Intellectual Property) Rights to the product that I have built?

A. The developer/developers of the web/mobile application will have all rights and own the IP of the product. However, all code needs to be in public domain (open source) so that it can be evaluated by the judges.

Q. A fully developed application need to have a solid backend for data storage like SQL, SharePoint etc. since its online, is it accepted to show only the proto type of it?

A. Yes it’s absolutely fine to submit just the prototype. If you use any database like MySQL or PostgresSQL you can also submit a database dump along with your submission. However you are allowed to submit just the prototype.
