ABOUT THE HACKATHON
/hack (slash hack) is the premiere hackathon by hackers for hackers. 300 hackers will compete in the 24-hour hackathon held in San Francisco on August 27-28. /hack is for hackers at all levels - whether you are a working professional, a college student, or even in high school, - learn from students, CTOs, architects, and more. Talent has no boundaries and neither will /hack.
/hack is hosted by HackerEarth, the hub for programmers where developers come to practice and compete. We are passionate about hackathons and want to celebrate the spirit of programming by spreading the knowledge and catalyzing the desire to create something extraordinary.

FAQs
Who can apply?
Anyone! Whether you are in high school, college, or a working professional, if you are passionate about programming and are interested in building new technologies - we want you to participate in /hack!
Are there travel reimbursements?
Yes! When you’re accepted, you can submit your travel reimbursement forms and receipts. We’ll determine the most reasonable travel option and set a cap from that city. We will reimburse travel up to this cap - if you go over the cap, we cannot cover the overage cost.
How will teams work?
Teams will consist of 1-4 hackers. After you are shortlisted for the hackathon, you can create your team and submit your idea synopsis on HackerEarth before the hackathon. However, the entire project must be built at the event. If you don’t have an idea or a team, you can explore existing teams and request to join a project that sounds exciting to you!
Are international hackers eligible for travel reimbursements?
/hack will only reimburse US domestic travel.
What is the Code of Conduct
Our hackathon is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, previous hackathon attendance or computing experience (or lack of any of the aforementioned). We do not tolerate harassment of hackathon participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate at any hackathon venue, including hacks, talks, workshops, parties, social media and other online media. Hackathon participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the hackathon without a refund (if applicable) at the discretion of the hackathon organizers.
What does it cost?
/hack is totally free for all accepted hackers! We’ll provide meals, swag, workspace, and wifi for the weekend. We’ll even reimburse you for your travel!
When will applications close?
Friday August 5th but we encourage you to apply sooner! We’ll shortlist 300 hackers for on-site participation in /hack.
What should I bring?
Your laptop, phone, chargers, and a form of identification. There will be designated sleeping space, so make sure you bring a pillow and sleeping bag too!
I was accepted, can I invite friends to be on my team?
As long as your team members are also accepted participants. If they have not yet received notification, we are taking into account team/teammate requests from accepted applicants. You can e-mail us up to three recommendations for friends/colleagues.
I still have more questions!
