Overview

Music is the universal language of humankind. A great uniter, it's astonishing how music can connect souls, overcome barriers, and bring people closer. An incredible force, music is something that people with different perceptions have in common.

Music is becoming more digital every day and World Music Hackathon is the stage to experiment with its changes and develop ideas for the future of music.

Your ideas can connect the artist with his or her audience, online or offline, in real-time or over time. Your ideas will lead the way to find new ways of reinventing and reengineering music for the digital age.

We wish to bring together creative developers, designers, musicians, and product visionaries to test ideas and create products with the potential to change the world of music.

The objectives of World Music Hackathon are to create solutions that help people with disabilities interpret sound and music, discourage piracy, and connect artists with their audience in real-time or over time. We are hoping these new and creative thoughts and innovations would reliably furnish musicians with motivation and will interface the path in rethinking and reengineering music for the digital age.

This is a platform to change the future of the underserved music community and is by no means limited to young and old, regional or cultural genres, or gender identity. It is a platform that can promote diversity across backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities to drive personal growth through creation, collaboration, and communication.

Themes

Enabling music for the disabled

For people with disabilities, technology has the potential to unlock unprecedented new possibilities. Create solutions for communication, navigation, and independence of disabled people while learning and creating music.

Ease of learning and playing music

Innovations provide fun and creative ways to enhance the learning experience. Create apps and online tools that can ease the more unsavory aspects of learning an instrument through gamification and progress tracking, which will help the learner stay motivated.

Anti-piracy

According to Woolley's introduction each year, it is estimated that 12.5 billion dollars are lost due to file sharing and music piracy, and 5 billion of that is profits lost from the music industry directly. Create solutions that can minimize and discourage music piracy.

Improving music recommendations

With the advent of technology, the glory of Radio DJs has passed, and personalized algorithms and unlimited streaming services have replaced musical gatekeepers. With listeners now interested in a very diverse genre of music, algorithms still struggle in key areas. Without enough historical data, how would an algorithm decide which songs to recommend to its existing or new users? Since the content recommendation is at the heart of most subscription-based streaming platforms, a good recommendation system can vastly enhance user experience and increase user engagement.

Open innovation (reengineering music for the digital age)

Innovate solutions that can make a difference in the world of music. If your ideas do not fit into any of the themes mentioned above but can truly contribute to the world of music, submit them under open innovation. You are only restricted by your imagination.
