This hackathon, a flagship event of E-Summit 2019 is on its way to be India's biggest in-house hackathon. The purpose of this event lies in its cause of identifying sensitive social issues and problems in entrepreneurship and business domain. This event shall serve as a platform for developers, designers and disruptors across the country come together and harness their expertise to build products in real time and provide effective solution. We aim to take forward the culture of the Smart India Hackathon set by our Honorable Prime minister to promote technologies, student innovations, startups, business incubation and above all crowdsource solutions of problems in public domain across multiple sectors for betterment of nation and set a milestone in the road towards making India a technical superpower.

Themes

Agriculture
  • Diminish the increasing number of post harvest losses in India by dint of various technologies that enhances the service life of produce at various farm gates.

Background: India’s agricultural losses in harvest and post-harvest are almost around INR 92,000 crores (~ USD 13 billion). In case of durables, semi-perishables and perishables the post harvest losses are estimated to be 10-25%. In addition to that fruits and vegetables have post harvest loss as high as around 30-40% percent.

The Requirements: Versatile technological solutions that will steadily increase the revenue of marginal farmers and peasants by downsizing losses at farm gates, or during handling and storage. These solutions should be in-expensive, handy, environmentally-viable and most importantly extremely scalable.

  • Fishery: Ingenious methods to collect data and use it for fishery management challenges.

Background: Small-scale fishermen in developing countries are face growing challenges. Declination in their catches due to overfishing and in few cases, degeneration of marine life. They invest extra amount of money on fuel and more time out on the ocean to catch enough to keep one's head above water. Furthermore it is not possible for them to hold on with competition from larger vessels on top of that in some cases fishing is outlawed. With half of the fish caught for human consumptions arriving from small-scale and artisanal fisheries, the living of these fishermen are compelling for their society

The Requirements: Solutions that can be used for capturing value adding data with definitive and practical purposes and that allows for data to be shared appropriate software tools and decentralized ledger technology.

Healthcare
  • Increasing amount of death rate of infant baby and several problems which leads to miscarriage of babies.

  • Background: As stated in a UNICEF report of 2014 death rate of child below the age of 5 years in Bangladesh is 46 per 1000, in 1993 this number was around 133. This was not at all gratifying and new targets have already been set in order to minimise the death rate. This time the target has been set to curtail the death rate to 25 per 1000 to accomplish Sustainable Development Goal of United Nations by 2030, which is almost half of the present rate. Concurrently the death rate of the newly born baby is degraded to 12 per 1000. To reach this target we have to overthrow a numerous amount of challenges. The very first challenge is the absence of knowledge among common folks. For the lack of appropriate education and knowledge they are not cognizant of these issues. A sizeable part of common folks has an apprehensive nature. Rather than consulting a professional doctor for a child people generally prefer incompetent surgeon which results in risk to the life of both mother and child. In addition to that there are few other problems like not taking proper care of a pregnant women, averting vaccination of the newly born infants.

The Requirements: Various methods to decrease the child death rate and proper care of the pregnant women. Assurance of nutritious food, regular health check-up for new mothers and vaccination, breastfeeding, proper food for newly born. So that we will make sure to attain all the targets by 2030..

  • Swift Point Of Care (POC) solutions for mass screening and surveillance.

Background:Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) represents the health focus on assured healthy lives and activities and also endorsing healthy welfare at all ages. It consists of ambitious goals and pioneering work to put an end to avertable deaths of new-born and children under 5 years of age, end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, ensure global approach to reproductive health care assistance, safe drinking water and hygienic toilets protect people from chronic disease and enable societies to be more productive economically, and achieve global health analysis and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable healthcare for all.

The Requirements:Self-administered/Point-Of-Care solutions that can be used for detection and diagnosis of several non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and contagious diseases with sophisticated and smart data capture and foolproof which can be further expanded for massive screenings in minimalistic resource settings.

  • By the year 2030, the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities has to be reduced. Special attention should be given to air quality and municipal and other waste management. And we have to overcome a great deal of challenges for that. All the pollution of cities has to be reduced.

Background:The emission of smoke from automobiles and several industries are boosting the air pollution into a whole new level. Sound pollution is yet another aspect which is actively taking part in disintegration of environment. Sounds generated by automobiles are having a bad influence on child, old persons and patients. A huge number of industries counting ready-made apparel factories are being constructed all over the city. Citizens dumping wastes in every places which leads to soil pollution

The Requirements: Effective approach to the degrade the pollutions like air, water, soil, sound, in cities so that their adverse should be minimum by the year 2030.

Social
  • To develop a cost effective system and efficient systems that recovers the energy lost in braking

Background: Generally when we apply brakes a huge amount of energy is lost due to frictional resistance between ground and the tyres. Challenge is to develop a system that can utilize this lost energy in order to charge a cell. It should be easily fitted to the vehicle so as to charge the cell. This cell should not primary cell. It should be an additional cell storing energy.

    Requiremets:A working prototype.

  • Delay or inability of a woman in urban areas (Tier I/ II cities) to inform relevant persons in real time of a situation that results or is likely to result in an act of sexual abuse/ violence.

Background: Safety of Women from sexual assualt and other incidents of sexual violence is an unrelenting and increasingly frequent problem in modern Indian cities. Urban areas have opened up new employment opportunities for women which has also led to a increasing number of working women in urban areas; many of whom are new migrants to these cities and without local presence of family. Urban areas also see an increased interaction of women and men in workspaces, in transit (buses, trains, cabs, Uber, Ola etc.) and other public spaces; and during all times of the day and night. When a women is in a situation where she is alone and vulnerable to incidents of sexual assault, it is important that she is able to inform her friends and family of the situation immediately, without any delay and on a real-time basis so that help can arrive quickly. The now ubiquitous smart-phone, although seemingly a woman's closest ally in such times still does not offer a comprehensive solution by which a woman in distress can relay SOS-type information to a pre-determined set of people effectively and in real-time with necessary details such as location and the details of the situation that she is in. This would help the relevant persons to effectively and quickly respond to the crisis.

Solution : The solution can be smart-phone based since it is a device that most urban women carry; but this itself need not rule out a separate/ exclusive device for the solution

  • Solving human-elephant conflict

Background: Elephants die in India due to train collisions, threatening their survival. Elephant has been declared as the national heritage animal of India, which serves as an abode to Asiatic elephants. India’s economy is often referred to as the 'Elephant', implying a slow, yet powerful economy. Every year, a number of elephants sustain injuries and die in India after colliding with trains on railway tracks. No mitigation solution has yet been shown to be effective and the whole population is now considered threatened. India has the largest wild population of the Asian elephants— around 28,000 in number. A report by the Elephant Task force, commissioned by the Indian Ministry of Environment, revealed that 150 elephants were recently crushed to death by speeding trains and this number is increasing everyday. Railway lines and other linear infrastructure projects run through the forests for thousands of kilometers affecting wildlife corridors. This causes the fragmentation of their habitat. Animals cross the tracks to reach nearby water bodies, or in search of food, and sometimes end up getting trapped. The steep embankments alongside the tracks make it even more difficult for the bulky and slowmoving animal to escape when a train approaches. It has also been reported that the frequency of accidents increased when tracks were converted from narrow gauge to standard gauge, allowing high speed trains to run. Not only due to trains, but elephants and other animals get involved in various other human-animal conflict. Ultimately the animals fall for prey to humans’ actions in all the instances from the past.

    Solutions Expected:
    • Feasible: A feasible solution which can not only be used by train pilots, but also by common people who are regularly involved in human animal conflict.
    • Versatile: The solution should be generalized to all animal-human conflicts. It is to be noted that not only elephants are involved in train collisions in India.
    • Scalable: It can be scaled from a pilot test to a variety of geographical contexts. Different geographical conditions shouldn’t should not affect the solution.
Business
  • Marketing Of Agri-Commodities: Implementing seamless marketing of agri commodities beyond the current geographic array.

Background:Government Of India aimed to accomplish this through the eNAM but most trades on eNAM are only intra mandi trades.. eNAM, which was envisioned as a unified national electronics agriculture market, faces multiple hurdles. Grading and contentment are demanding if marketing of agriculture trades has to start happening between mandis that are far apart. Government data show that the six States with the most mandis under eNAM are Uttar Pradesh – 66; Madhya Pradesh – 58; Haryana: 54; Maharashtra – 54; Telangana – 44 and Gujarat – 40. But the platform is not fully functional in any State. There are no scientific sorting/grading facilities or quality testing machines. Lack of internet connectivity is another issue impeding progress.

The Requirements: Technology endorsed solutions to enable marketing of various agri-commodities among mandis of different states.
