Rules

  • This is a team participation hackathon. You can have at most 3 members in your team.

  • Participating teams are going to shortlisted by our judges and will be notified of their acceptance once the registration period is over and decisions have been made.

  • Accepted participants will also be sent details about an online pre-hackathon crypt hunt. Points earned from the crypt hunt will be added to an online leaderboard and will contribute to the team's performance at the hackathon.

  • The hackathon will start at Jul 29, 2017 09:00 AM and end at Jul 30, 2017 01:30 PM, you work on your hack during the allotted time only.

  • HackGSF is a physical hackathon. The venue is

    Y Media Labs, 150 Old Airport Road, Diamond District, Tower B, Lower Ground Floor, Kodihalli, Domlur, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560008, India.

  • There are 10 themes of the hackathon, you must submit a hack that is in one or more of these themes.

  • The submissions will be judged by the appointed judges, the decision of the administrative team will be final and binding.

  • Once the hackathon starts, you will get an option to submit your hack. You can submit as many times as you want; the last hack will be considered as the final submission.

  • You are expected to come up with new and innovative ideas, any idea that has been copied from elsewhere will be disqualified.

  • Your hack must be developed entirely during the Hackathon duration. You may use open source libraries and other freely available systems/services such as Google Maps, Facebook Connect, Twitter feeds etc.

  • The intellectual property of your code belongs only to your team.

  • By participating in the hackathon, you agree to the terms and conditions of HackGSF.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Title of the event
    HackGSF 2017

  2. Instructions / conduct
    For the duration of the event, the event organizer, its legal representatives, and the parties employed in the performance of its obligations shall be authorized to issue instructions to the participant. Any instructions that the staff implementing the event may issue must mandatorily be followed in order to avoid risks.

    The participant is to refrain from any and all actions that might impair or jeopardize other participants, agents of the event organizer, or any other persons. The participant is to conduct himself / herself with the utmost discipline in the course of the event.

  3. Data protection, data collection, use of data
    The participant agrees that photographs, film recordings, and interviews created in connection with his or her participation in the event may be disseminated and published in radio, television, print and online media, books, photomechanical reproductions (films, video cassettes, etc.) without any limitations applying in terms of the duration or geographic location of such use; the participant shall not be entitled to any remuneration.

  4. Terms of Participation

    (1) The Terms of Participation must be accepted prior to registering for the event.

    (2) The competition will begin on July 29th, 2017 and will end on July 30th, 2017.

    (3) The team size is restricted to a maximum number of 3 persons.

    (4) In advance of the event, select teams will receive certain hardware (e.g Amazon Alexa) in order to familiarize themselves with it. This hardware is to be returned following the event.

    (5) Participation in the event is free of charge.

  5. Ownership rights
    By his or her participation in the hackathon, the participant confirms that he or she is the author of the idea(s) submitted, and that no rights whatsoever of third parties exist with regard to the idea(s). Should third parties nonetheless file a claim for the violation of their rights and should such violation be the result of intentional or grossly negligent conduct of the participant, then the participant shall be liable for any and all damages that GSF India or its subsidiaries suffer as a consequence.

    The copyrights and the rights of use shall remain with the participant.

  6. Awards
    Those of the participants who do not receive an award will not receive any compensation for the idea(s) they submit.

  7. Participants
    The event is planned for a number of 40 teams. Should more than 40 teams register, the event organizer shall decide. Only those participants who have provided a valid email address will be considered for participation. The participant is responsible for ensuring that the email address he or she has provided is correct. Participants will be notified by email after the slots for the event have been awarded.

  8. Permission to make photographic or film recordings
    In the course of the event, GSF India, may make film recordings or take photographs on-site at the event that show the participant, and it may also record statements, interviews with the undersigned and such like on audio carriers and/or video carriers. GSF India is free to use the above. In this regard, GSF India specifically has the right – irrespective of time and place – to archive, edit, copy, distribute, issue, and publicly reproduce the film recordings and photographs as well as other recordings in the form of sound or images. The right to publicly reproduce the aforementioned items includes the right to demonstrate and present them, the right to broadcast them, the right to reproduce them in the form of sound or images, and the right to reproduce radio and television programs. The aforesaid exploitation rights are granted irrespective of the forms of transmission or reproduction involved; they specifically include the right of exploitation through electronic media, in particular, the internet. The reports about the finalists will contain photographs taken during the event and will include their names.

  9. Exclusion of liability
    Upon handing over the prize, GSF India accepts no liability for legal and/or material defects.

    GSF India is not liable for any personal injury, damage to property, or economic loss that occurs in connection with this Agreement, unless the loss or damage was the result of willful intent or gross negligence (intentionally or through negligence in cases of personal injury) by legal representatives or by agents.
