Create an intuitive user interface to identify the position and location of a piece of equipment in relation to its surrounding, that can then return any relevant information related to that asset. The information displayed has to be in an easy to understand format that does not interfere with the user’s vision and awareness of their surroundings for safety reasons.

What: Improve the Welcome Week experience for all new students at McMaster University

How: Leverage new technologies to help students interact with other students, get involved in activities on campus and become familiar with the McMaster University Campus.

Why: ArcelorMittal Dofasco believes these technologies will be an important tool to engage new employees and provide them with meaningful work experiences.

Students are encouraged to utilize any hardware/software that they believe will solve the challenges above. We are providing the following hardware to students to help achieve their final product:

What: Find new ways to ensure workers remain safe while working in a manufacturing environment.

How: Leverage new technology to help provide workers alerts and information to ensure they continue working safely in a manufacturing environment and prevent any accidents.

Why: There is nothing more important than the Health and Safety of everyone invited to and working at ArcelorMittal Dofasco. All injuries and work related illness can and must be prevented.

We will be bringing approximately 10 Leap Motions, one for each team. We'll be signing them out on the basis of the hack the team are contemplating. One member of each team will have to provide contact information in order for us to secure the devices' return.

Through the “Presentation and Collaboration Tool,” teams will explore new ways to come up with an innovative web-based application that will allow team members to get access to basic presentation tools. Come check FDM booth for further instructions! The winning team will receive passes to the CN Tower EdgeWalk and an opportunity to visit FDM Office!

Here’s a broader description: When it comes to group presentations, it can be very challenging to collaborate and contribute effectively. One way is to send presentation around via email or put it in a shared directory. Some teams may decide to use Google Drive or Dropbox services and take the advantage of these platforms to keep track of all changes. All these approaches have pros and cons and may need extra applications to be installed on every machine.

We are interested in a web-based application that allows teammates to join the session without registering or installing new apps and collaborate in real time. The application must provide basic presentation tools like adding text or drawing shapes with different colours. Teammates can save their presentation to their local machines or online, which requires registration in the system. Furthermore, adding rich media like images, audio and video has additional points.

Users must be able to use their computers as well as mobile devices to interact with the system in real-time.

Prize: one Drone for each team member of the winning team, up to 4 members.
