Rules

The hackathon is over two phases:

Ideation Phase (1): You need to submit the synopsis of how you will develop the solution. You can also develop a prototype/mockup at this stage and add it to your submission. If you want you can also submit a video explaining your solution. This stage will finish on 7th May 2017.

Coding Phase (2): On 12th May 2017, we will announce the shortlist of participants who can come to Airtel Center, Gurugram, for the second phase.

On 21st May 2017, at the end of the two day event we will announce the prize winners.

  • Participants can register as teams or as individuals & you can have at most 4 members in your team.

  • You can either invite your friends to form a team or you can request other teams to add you as a member.

  • The hackathon will start on 20th May 2017 10:00 AM and end on 21st May 2017 03:00 PM. You can work on your hack during the allotted time only.

  • It’s an on-premise hackathon & the venue is

    `Airtel Center, Plot No. 16, Udyog Vihar Phase – 4, Gurgaon – 122 015 Haryana (India)

  • There are 2 themes for the hackathon & you must submit a hack that is in one of these themes.

  • On the day of the hackathon, representatives from Airtel will be present to give feedback and directions to the participants.

  • Once the hackathon starts, you will get an option to submit your hack, you can submit as many times as you want, the last hack will be considered as the final submission.

  • You can share your code for evaluation via Dropbox. To register on Dropbox please click here. In case you are new to drop box, you can access the tutorial here.

  • You are expected to come up with new and innovative ideas & any idea that has been copied from somewhere will be disqualified.

  • Your hack must be developed entirely during the Hackathon duration. You may use open source libraries and other freely available systems / services such as Google Maps, Facebook Connect, Twitter feeds etc.

  • By participating in the hackathon, you agree to the terms and conditions of HackerEarth.

WHACK #WhatTheHack Terms and Conditions

Acceptance

By submitting your registration for the WHack – #WhatTheHack, by Airtel (the “ Hackathon” or the “Event”) the participants agree to accept and abide by the following Terms and Conditions (hereinafter referred to as “Hackathon Terms & Conditions”) as well as Hackerearth’s Terms of Service which can be viewed here.

An individual applicant or team participating in the Event shall be referred to as “Participant”.

Eligibility

  1. The Hackathon is hosted and organized by the Bharti Airtel Limited (“Airtel”) and the Organisers with the Idea Submission Phase starting from 12:00 AM on 29th March, 2017 till 11:55 PM on 7th May, 2017. The participants shortlisted in this phase will be invited to an on-premise Hackathon which will start from 10:00AM on 20th May, 2017 & end by 3:00PM on 21st May, 2017.
  2. The Hackathon is open to everyone who is an Indian citizen and above the age of 18 years.
  3. Each Participant may only participate through one Hackerearth account. In case it is observed, that you have created more than one account, Airtel, at its sole discretion may decide to terminate all your accounts except the account that was first created.
  4. Participation in the Hackathon is free. Participants are also allowed to participate as teams. The maximum number of members in a team is 4.

Registration and Selection of Participants : Ideation Phase

  1. Each Participant must register & submit the Idea no later than 11:55 PM on 7th May, 2017.
  2. Participants can register as teams or as individuals.
  3. Registration can be done through the online registration link which can be accessed by clicking here.
  4. Each Participant must enter the required information in the registration form. The forms must be complete. Any incomplete, false, erroneous, fraudulent, forged, and tampered forms will not be accepted.
  5. The Idea Submission Phase will be judged by a panel consisting of 2 members (“Judging Panel”).

Competition/ Judging : On-Premise Hackathon

  1. The participants whose idea is shortlisted in the first phase of the competition will be invited via an email from Airtel, to an on-premise Hackathon on 20th May, 2017. During the duration of this on-premise event, the participant will have to develop a working prototype of the idea submitted.
  2. Participants need to bring their own laptop with installed development environments and software.
  3. Airtel, Hackerearth or the Judging Panel shall not be liable or responsible in any manner whatsoever if any damage (of any kind or character) is caused to the devices or software of the Participants.
  4. Selection of the winning entry/entries for the Hackathon shall be made by the Judging Panel. The Judging Panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into after the final results are declared. For prize details, please see below ‘Prizes’
  5. The Participant agrees that any travel costs incurred by them for or in connection with the Hackathon shall be solely borne by them and Airtel shall neither incur nor reimburse any such cost.

Intellectual Property

  1. All intellectual property rights concerning the entries shall remain with the Participant(s).
  2. If and when a Participant is declared a winner, the Participant expressly acknowledges and agrees, in consideration of the Prize received, that (a) He/She shall not develop or submit the same or similar entity in any other hackathon or similar event organised by any third party in India or otherwise, and (b) all intellectual property rights in the entries submitted by such Participants shall vest exclusively with Airtel.
  3. All data sets or platforms made available by Airtel/ Hackerearth to Participants during or in connection with the Hackathon shall remain the sole and exclusive property of Airtel/ Hackerearth. The said data sets or platforms should not be stored, reverse-engineered, copied, deduced, extracted or replicated in any manner or medium whatsoever, by the Participants.

Instructions and Behaviour

  1. A Participant may be disqualified on grounds that include, but are not limited to fraud, any other form of dishonesty, misappropriation or infringement of the intellectual property of others and/or any failure to comply with these Hackathon Terms and Conditions.
  2. A Participant may be also be disqualified for committing any act that is unlawful, objectionable, obscene or generally regarded as inappropriate.

Liability

  1. Airtel and/or Hackerearth shall not be liable for any damages or claims that might arise or occur during or in connection with the Hackathon, except in cases of gross negligence or wilful misconduct on their part.
  2. The Participant shall be responsible to ensure the security of his/her Hackerearth account. Airtel shall not assume any liability for any breach of security or unauthorized use of the Participant’s Hackerearth account. The Participant agrees to immediately notify us in the event that you become aware of any unauthorized use of your account or of any other breach of security related to the Event. The Participant shall be liable for any loss caused to Airtel by unauthorized use of the the Participant’s Hackerearth account.
  3. The Participant acknowledges that data transmission over the internet or data storage system is not completely secure. Airtel does not take responsibility for the security of content and subsequent use of the content submitted by you through the Hackerearth account.
  4. Participants shall indemnify and hold Airtel and Organisers harmless from and against any claims of third parties arising from any violation of any third party’s intellectual property right or any other unlawful act committed during the Airtel Hackathon or in the 60 (sixty) days after the Event when the Participant’s application may still be live or from any breach of these Hackathon Terms and Conditions.

Data Privacy

  1. The personal data of the Participants may be used in accordance with the relevant local Data Protection Laws. By registering, each Participant agrees, that their personal data and, if applicable, the personal data of each member of the team, may be stored and used by Airtel within the course of the Hackathon. This consent can be revoked at any time whereupon the registration in the Hackathon will be automatically cancelled. Stored personal data will be deleted upon revocation or at the latest after the end of the Hackathon. No personal data will be given to third parties without the express permission of the Participant.
  2. Participant agrees that any pictures being taken within the course of the Event may be used by Airtel/ Organisers for future promotional, marketing, publicity and recruitment purposes and Participant waives any claim to remuneration for such use.

*The prizes are non- transferable and non-substitutable.

The winners will be announced after the conclusion of the Event on 21st May, 2017 and thereafter a list will be published on https://www.hackerearth.com/sprints/airtel-hackathon/

This Event is being made purely on a “best effort” basis and participation of subscribers is voluntary, and subject to acceptance of these Hackathon Terms & Conditions.

The prize/s to the winners shall be given subject to compliance with all applicable statutory legislations/ processes / formalities in connection with the prize(s) and on production of all such documents / papers as may be required by Airtel. Any failure on the part of the winners to comply with directions issued by Airtel for claiming the prize shall entitle Airtel to forfeit the prize(s) or roll the prize over to the next eligible winner, at its sole discretion.
