Overview

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals for any organization are defined in order to work towards the betterment of the environment. ESG is more than just a regulatory requirement; it’s about making a difference for our businesses and our world - creating sustained outcomes that drive value, whilst making our environment and societies strong.

Do you know that climate change could push up to 132 million people into extreme poverty by 2030? (Source: World Bank) Deforestation contributes to ~4.8 billion tonnes of Carbon Dioxide a year? In fact, the construction sector alone contributes to 23% of air pollution, 50% of the climatic change, 40% of drinking water pollution, and 50% of landfill wastes. We are certain you would agree that all these statistics are staggering! Imagine the impact it has on the years to come.

With an intent to bring together the developer community to mitigate such harmful impact on the society and make our future sustainable, HackerEarth brings to you a chance to build for the future and create an impact on the community.

This hackathon is open to all developers who have an eye for design and passion for code. Participants can either hack individually or as a team. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn with other teams, showcase your talent, and compete for prizes!

Themes

Data & IOT

While most construction and energy (gas, electricity, hydel, and the likes) organizations define certain ESG goals for the betterment of the environment, but are they really meeting these objectives?

While the current method of ascertaining this is by analyzing word density and performing sentiment analysis on AGM and Quarterly review transcripts, we want you to think out of the box so that we can make this model better and figure out ways of collecting data to see how these companies are meeting the acceptance criteria.

Problem Statement

Create a solution to improve existing energy environment models or figure out new ways of scraping public record information to see how companies in the Construction and Energy domains are meeting their commitment to the environment.

Tech Stack

1. Data

2. IoT

Task

1. Track whether environment-related goals are being met

2. What is the progress in achieving the goals

3. Scraping public record information

4. Sentiment analysis on AGM and Quarterly review transcripts

Submission format

1. Source code in a zip folder

2. Related documents and PDFs

3. Used dataset

4. PPT for idea submission and final presentation

Artificial Intelligence

Deforestation invariably leads to many plants and animals losing their natural habitat, resulting in ecological imbalance and threat to the environment.

Problem statement

Create a solution to improve existing environment models or figure out new ways to anticipate deforestation rate of forests using images to see how the government is meeting their commitment to the environment.

Open innovation

Energy conservation is one of the most important concerns right now in the global world. To ensure that environment and energy-related goals are being kept in mind and fulfilled, work on an idea that can help in energy efficiency and maintaining resources through any method or by using any new technologies.

Ideate and create a prototype to solve problems related to energy and environment conservation. Participants have the option of using cloud technology, IOT, data analytics, and other new platforms to build their ideas.

We are open to solutions from all domains that bring out the best of energy conservation and mindful usage of resources. We cannot wait to see your creative ideas!
