Overview

FOR HELP ON JOINING A TEAM, PLEASE REFER TO THE HELP CENTER TAB ON THE LEFT

Hacking is building things that you always wanted to have but no one has built it yet. It's to come up with an amazing idea and work tirelessly on it. It is to fail, fail again and fail better. Try out new things and learn while doing that. It's to work together, collaborate and build things that are innovative. It is to be a better programmer.

With that spirit, VMware {code} is conducting a Hackathon at VMworld and invites all developers and Hackathon enthusiasts to participate in an interesting and engaging Hackathon.

Any topic that doesn't fit in with the topics below

Internet of Things

A world of devices connected by internet opens up opportunities for us that were previously unthinkable. The fact that devices can now be connected to each other, share data and take intelligent decisions by talking to other devices can disrupt the way we interact with our surroundings. Build applications on Internet of Things that help us improve our experience in our day to day life.

PowerShell

PowerShell is a task-based command-line shell and scripting language. It is designed specifically for system administrators and power-users, to rapidly automate the administration of multiple operating systems (Linux, macOS, Unix, and Windows), applications that run on those operating systems, and a wealth of other resources from on-premises datacenters to cloud based resources.

This theme is for those hackathon attendees that want to use PowerShell to automate their team to success!

Python

Python is a popular programming language with a large focus on code readability. Python can be used on most operating systems for any number of things, including programming against any number of things already in your datacenter or cloud-based environment!

Pivotal Container Service (PKS)

Pivotal Container Service (PKS) integrates a Kubernetes stack on top an existing SDDC solution. VI admins can self-service access to development teams working on building cloud-native applications. PKS integrates with vRealize LogInsight, Wavefront and vRealize Operations. Hack away by developing interesting solutions,. Automate Install process via Chef/Puppet/Ansible. Or build an Interesting dashboards for monitoring the stack in Wavefront, LogInsight or vRealize Operations

VMware Kubernetes Engine (VKE)

Kubernetes is a popular container orchestration tool. It gives developers a simple API to talk to deploy applications, define scale limits, no. of instances needed and how to publish services via simple YAML file descriptions. Developers can build creative applications using micro-services architecture and move from build to deploy and publish very quickly. Bring your creative hats on and use VMware Kubernetes Engine to build a new application or convert an existing one! See sample apps at https://github.com/kubernetes/examples for inspiration.
