Overview

The world of sports has witnessed more advancements today than ever before, resulting in better performance analysis, fan engagement and sports marketing. The vast accumulation of data due to advancements in broadcasting technology and Moore's Law has created a large demand for structuring and processing data to make powerful empirical decisions. The Big Data Revolution is upon us!

Sports Analytics Hackathon:

The Sports Analytics Hackathon presented by Shaastra, IIT Madras and Global Sports Commerce (GSC) will bring innovative and analytical minds together and create groundbreaking solutions in the sports industry. The hackathon is an event focused on impact, centered around Sports Analytics. It will have an online round followed by an offline finale where finalists are required to present their solutions at the SportsTech Summit 2019.

The participants will have to provide solutions to the problem statements put up. The problem statements would be based on Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence. The hackathon will be held for a duration of 2 weeks. Top 5 teams will be shortlisted to present their solutions in the finale which will be held during the SportsTech Summit 2019. Prizes worth 1L are up for grabs, so register now to be a part of the hack!

Computer Vision

Computer vision plays a key role in the world of sports. Some of the best-known current application areas are in, sports analysis for broadcast and behind-the-scenes applications in areas such as training, coaching and providing assistance to the referee during a game. That said, the hackathon includes problem statements based on computer vision, clubbed with deep learning, another indispensable tool for pushing forward vision applications.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence has brought disruptive solutions to almost every imaginable field, and the same holds true with sports. AI is helping athletes and teams prepare better for competitive matches as it uses advanced analytics to study opponents. AI is also being used to calculate predictions of opponent's most likely reactions to certain on-field actions. Machine learning algorithms have also revolutionalized the fan engagement sector, thus enabling franchises to entertain fans both on and off the field. The hackathon problem statements are an AI cocktail. Bon appetit!
