Fostering growth through innovation

Welcome to Hackpions, the second edition of the hackathon from the Enablement Services function of EY Global Delivery Services (GDS).

Our quest is to bring together technology champions from varied domains to gather unique ideas and cutting edge innovation that can help EY GDS teams solve business problems. Join the quest to showcase your coding craftsmanship.

As part of the hackathon, you will get an opportunity to partner with hackers from around the world and build hacks in critical and extensive domains by leveraging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud, data analytics. You will also get a chance to be mentored by professionals from EY GDS and HackerEarth, who will guide you throughout as you take up the challenge to turn hacks into real-world business solutions to problems new and old.

What does the challenge include?

You will be asked to build an innovative prototype solution across one of the following technology stacks - App development; API development; data science; artificial intelligence/machine learning; game development; WebApp development; Full stack and cloud computing.

Why join Hackpions?

The hackathon will offer you an opportunity to work and learn from the industry’s leading minds to develop leading-edge solutions using the tools and resources of EY GDS. The winning teams, as well as finalists, also stand to win exciting prizes and rewards along with an opportunity to work with EY GDS (depending on role and internal openings).

Themes

Guidelines for building your prototype solution

The Expected Statistical Solution for all 6 themes is mentioned below:

  • Solution should ideally suit for deployment in Azure cloud platform:
  • The tools can leverage open source/custom libraries/Application Program Interface (API) from cloud platforms.
  • Azure and MS Tech stack continues to be the most preferred stack over which we would like the solutions to be built. Open source technologies can be used if Azure and MS Tech stack cannot solve the problem or if you do not have access to the above-mentioned stack. You should, however, design the solution in a way that it can easily be ported to Azure and MS Tech stack and provide a valid business reason during the evaluation for your decision to go with open source technologies.
  • Preferable technology stack is C#, .net and Python for Artificial Intelligence (AI)/ Machine Learning (ML). You are also free to use libraries that are not licensed under Affero General Public License (AGPL).
Social Media Listening

Overview:

Social listening is a way to rapidly gain information about consumers’ changing preferences, habits, and expectations and is an invaluable source of insights for PR and marketing professionals. Leverage the social media data to identify thought leadership and business opportunities, which could improve EY’s web visibility.

Task:

  • Analyze the parameters mentioned below to propose strategies for increasing visibility and web ranking of EY’s content in search results:
    • Public content about EY or brand, products and services, key people, PR and marketing efforts (press releases, campaigns, hashtags, etc.), competitors, industry news, trends, buzzwords, incident, discussion, etc. on platforms such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc., through posts, likes, shares, reshares, read and tweets
  • Find key topics being discussed and sentiments around it
  • Identify scenarios of maximum user engagements
  • Derive insights from recent pattern/trend of topics
  • Derive insights for better digital marketing and business decision making

Submission:

Submit creative solution, case studies, reports, recommendations, business models, documentation, diverse ideation, strategies, or likewise to identify potential growth opportunities for EY across domain/line of business (example - Supply Chain, Advisory, Consulting, etc.) based on content in social media discussions.

Resources:

Sample data and derived report for reference purpose. You may use any additional/external data and come up with outputs which are aligned to aforesaid submission criteria.

Intent-based search and classification

Overview:

Intent classification in Natural Language Processing (NLP) is the automated association of text to a specific purpose or goal. A classifier analyzes pieces of text and categorizes them into relevant “intents” or “tags”. Unlike “static keyword search”, where keyword-matching is performed, the “intent-based search” recognizes the intention/purpose of the search, thereby reducing the delay in manual keyword-based search.

Task:

  • Propose and design an algorithm that can periodically crawl content repositories of files (shared file or SharePoint) to determine the properties (metadata) and the content of the files and match them against some predefined intents. Example: reusable assets, policy documents and solution accelerators
  • List and match metadata of newly added items and add metadata of the matching items to a tracking database with an index and matched pre-defined intents

Example:

An auto-scanner that runs regularly in folder(s) or takes documents as an input and tags them with their relevant tags like “bills”, “FAQs”, “rules and regulations,” etc. and captures them in an excel format.

Submission:

An automated, intelligent, self-learning system for crawling content folders, SharePoint document libraries, lists, etc. and performing matching based on certain business purposes or intents, aiming for an accuracy of 85% or above.

Resources:

Sample repository with documents, pre-defined intents, and index/tracking.

Intelligent virtualization of training

Overview:

As the world responds to the new normal, the need for remote learning tools has never been more urgent. The solution being sought is to build solutions that can help organizations make the transition to distance learning easier and provide its employees with a digital training platform for instructor-led and process training.

Task:

Platform Design:

  • Propose and design a user-friendly and interactive learning platform, which can digitize existing trainings
  • Create a digitized repository of process and instructor-led trainings

User Interface:

  • Create a leaderboard for each training and user level performance metrics
  • Create an analytical dashboard comparing performance of different users
  • Give reward/badges/point for accomplishing milestones
  • Suggest users with a learning path and next best learning

Submission:

A gamified training application with leaderboard and reward/badges to track employees’ accomplishments across the organization.

Resources:

Sample folder to be placed in the repository for process and instructor-led trainings. You need to digitize these trainings.

Image to text conversion

Overview:

An organizational chart is a diagram that shows the structure of an organization and the relationships and relative ranks of its parts and positions, jobs, etc. Leverage the power of Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence like Optical Character Recognition (OCR) in image recognition technology to convert organizational charts into a simpler textual format.

Task:

  • Propose and design a solution to scan organizational charts in different formats (PDF, MS Word and Excel, image, etc.) consisting of flowcharts and shapes like an arrow showing parent-to-child entity relationship
  • Extract details like child and parent entity, ownership percentage, country, etc. from a flow-chart/diagram
  • Convert the content into an Excel format

Example:

Google Lens, which uses feature extraction techniques for content-based image classification.

Submission:

An efficient, automated, and intelligent solution to convert organizational charts of various shapes into readable and editable excel formats.

Resources:

Sample org-chart and their output

Gamified employee onboarding app

Overview:

Almost every organization and enterprise conducts training programs for candidates as a part of the induction/on-boarding process. The solution in need is to gamify these training programs through highly interactive mediums to have an attractive, intuitive and rich experience.

Task:

  • Propose and design an app or platform, which can host training programs organized into various modules and systematically cover the various toll gates and checkpoints.
  • Create an immersive experience while building the platform. Example: situation simulation, Augmented reality (AR), mobile experience, treasure hunt experience, etc.
  • Gamification: Provide rewards/badges after accomplishing milestones, starting from attending online sessions, a training video, an online quiz and an awareness test as the final step
  • Add a feature to allow participants to compare progress with peers, who are undertaking the same induction process
  • Recommend users to undertake and record the completion of various activities and guide them through the next steps
  • Craft a configurable feature to accommodate content changes. Example: videos/presentations that feed into the platform could be changed without any code/design changes

Example:

For an Induction Process of new joiners, following are the activities that include but are not limited to the Induction process:
