Rules

  • This is a team participation hackathon. You can have at most 4 members in your team.

  • You can either invite your friends to form a team or you can request other teams to add you as a member.

  • The hackathon will start at Dec 14, 2018 07:00 PM IST and end at Dec 15, 2018 09:00 PM IST, you work on your hack during the allotted time only.

  • It's a physical hackathon, the venue is

    Vellore Institute of Technology, Near Katpadi Road, Vellore, Tamil Nadu 632014, India.

  • There are 7 themes of the hackathon, you must submit a hack that is in one of these themes.

  • Once the hackathon starts, you will get an option to submit your hack, you can submit as many times as you want, the last hack will be considered as the final submission.

  • You are expected to come up with new and innovative ideas, any idea that has been copied from somewhere will be disqualified.

  • Your hack must be developed entirely during the Hackathon duration. You may use open source libraries and other freely available systems / services such as Google Maps, Facebook Connect, Twitter feeds etc.

  • The intellectual property of your code belongs only to your team.

  • By participating in the hackathon, you agree to the terms and conditions of HackerEarth.

Terms and Conditions

Objective of the hackathon:

Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) On campus VIT student chapter is launching the first edition of Hackathon, a 24-hour, non-stop marathon to be held on December 14-15, 2018 at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. At this event, young developers who must be students will be asked to find digital solutions to the various topic areas that are provided under themes of Hack Off. Participation in the hackathon is free of charge.

Date and place for the event:

The hackathon is to be held on the days of December 14-15, 2018, at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. IET On campus VIT reserves the right to change the dates, time and location of the event due to technical or organizational needs by announcing such changes on the event's official web site.

Participants:

The hackathon is open to those who are interested in technology and innovation and have an interesting project or other idea to develop within the scope of the challenges proposed. The event is open to all students from across the country(India).

Requirements for acceptance and rules of participation:

  • Registering for the hackathon is entirely free of charge and is open only to existing teams of 2to 3 people.
  • Teams and individuals wishing to sign up for the hackathon must complete the online registration form.
  • The admission of teams or individuals to the competition is on a selection basis by panel of judges depending upon the approach to the problem statement which has to be uploaded.
  • Each team must be given a name as chosen by its members. Team names must not be connected in any way with the names of companies or registered trademarks or use expressions that incite violence or are discriminatory, obscene, or represent any form of defamation. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.
  • If information provided during online registration is found to be incomplete and/or inaccurate, even if related to just one team member, the entire team concerned will be excluded from the competition.
  • Teams may not be changed once the competition has begun, and should even just one member of a team leave the competition, the entire team will be rendered ineligible.
  • The members of each team undertake not to present projects that have previously been submitted to other initiatives or projects that have been presented at previous editions of the other hackathons.
  • By participating in the hackathon, each participant undertakes and accepts the rules and regulations, for the entire duration of the competition, to make use of the facilities in which the competition is to be held and any materials and equipment provided by IET On Campus VIT with the utmost care and diligence and to comply fully with the rules of conduct and safety established by IET On Campus VIT. Event participants will be held liable for any damage caused to people or property.
  • Hack Off participants hereby acknowledge that event participation is free of charge and that participation does not entail any right to compensation of any kind or to reimbursement of any expenses incurred.

The panel of judges:

Composition:

  • The projects executed by the teams for the competition will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges. Judging:

  • The final decisions of the judges are to be based on the following parameters: Concept, Design, Development, and Presentation. The panel will assign a score to each parameter, which will then determine the ranking of each participating team. The winners of Hack Off will be the three teams with the highest total scores in descending order. In the event of a tie, subsequent votes will be held until the three winning teams have been selected.

Decision:

  • All decision with respect to the qualification, prize money and winners is under the discretion of made the judges and the organising committee. IET On Campus, VIT bears the right to disqualify any participant at any stage of the event.

Intellectual property rights, guarantees, and release of responsibility:

By participating in the Hack Off and accepting these Regulations, each participant hereby:

  • declares that each prototype or mock-up presented is an original work and in no way violates, in whole or in part, the intellectual or industrial property rights of others. and releases IET On Campus VIT student chapter from any and all responsibility, liability, or request for compensation for damages that should be made by any third party. In case of any issues or violation, IET On Campus VIT holds no involvement.

  • acknowledges that each prototype or mock-up presented is the property of the team, which takes full responsibility for ensuring such rights of ownership, intellectual property and originality within the limits of the law (e.g. filing of patents and other such registrations as appropriate)

Registration

  • Registration for participation in the hackathon is to take place online by providing all necessary information using the form that can be found over hackerearth. Any applications submitted with incomplete or inaccurate information will result in the team being disqualified from participation in the hackathon. IET On Campus VIT rulings in this regard are final. Registration does not ensure participation in the hackathon.

Confirmation of Participation

  • The teams or individuals selected in accordance with the General Regulations above will receive official confirmation of their acceptance to the Hack Off sent to the e-mail address provided at the time of registration. This official notification will also provide details on the initiative and all information needed in order to come to the location in which the competition is to be held.

  • Hackathon organizers will provide all participants with Wi-Fi connections free of charge. Each participant must provide their own computer or other device for the design and development of the project. At the end of the 24-hour period, each team will present their work for evaluation by the judges.

The judges will evaluate all of the works presented by the team based on the following 4 parameters:

  • Concept

  • Design

  • Development

  • Presentation

  • The participants certificates and goodies provided to the participants would be under the discretion of IET On Campus VIT and can be revoked in case of a misconduct.

In addition to the above, participants undertake to observe the following simple rules of conduct:

  • respect the other participants;

  • do not use expressions that incite violence or forms of discrimination, obscenity, or defamation;

  • avoid content that is offensive, vulgar, defamatory, or that violates privacy or is otherwise against applicable law, as well as advertising content or content that concerns political or religious views or other such ideologies;

  • avoid developing applications that are clearly off topic compared to the assigned challenge;

  • do not violate copyrights, trademarks, or other such rights;

  • observe data-protection legislation;

  • do not receive outside assistance by way of e-mail or other forms of contact.
