Overview

Results for this challenge would be announced by the last week of February.

Re-imagine the future with AI.

Accenture Digital announces the launch of an exciting coding challenge in Artificial Intelligence space.

An extraordinary opportunity for Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, Business Intelligence Developers and others passionate or specializing in artificial intelligence to be engaged in a real challenge that may affect our everyday lives.

The participants are asked to use their skills with image recognition to find an innovative solution based on artificial intelligence able to recognize hand written texts and manuscripts (at least in block letters) in latin alphabet and letters.

Programming language: No constraints, the solution will be accepted even if Python is the preferred option. Use of accelerators (such as RASA, H2O…) built on frameworks (e.g. Tensorflow) are applicable and appreciated, but will not represent a mandatory requirement.

Tech stack is not a constraint as well. Even in this case, use of market products (Google/MSFT/AWS/IBM/…) or custom model built using open source frameworks (Tensorflow, CNTK, others…) is up to the participants. Use of hybrid tech stack is also allowed. Use of open source will be evaluated as a plus, but as a secondary driver after evaluation of quantitative results (accuracy).

Kind of infrastructure is not a constraint, as well. Participants can leverage cloud infrastructure from any IaaS provider. Use of major / most common cloud providers will be preferable (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure, Bluemix), but this is not a primary driver for evaluation. Furthermore it is preferable if the tech stack adopted will not drive to infrastructure lock-in and the possibility to deploy the artefact on premises will be a plus. Once again all these elements will be evaluated as secondary drivers for evaluation.

Themes

Handwriting Analysis using Machine Learning

The participants are asked to use their skills with image recognition to find an innovative solution based on artificial intelligence able to recognize hand written texts and manuscripts (at least in block letters) in latin alphabet and letters.

Criteria of evaluation:

• Accuracy: at least 70% of accuracy is required on a text of at least 30 words. Text will be provided along with 3 different templates:

o Blank document with only handwritten text in it

o Template document “1” with typed letters (part of the template) and handwritten letters in predefined boxes (part of the template)

o Template document “2” with typed letters (part of the template) and handwritten words in free sections (part of the template)

Accuracy will be evaluated with regard only to handwritten sections

• Evaluation will be executed on handwritten section in Latin alphabet (characters and Arabic numbers). Ideograms, kanji alphabet or other alphabet won’t be considered part of the scope
